What is a Subset?

A subset is a set containing some or all elements of another set. The empty set {} is a subset of every set.

Types of Subsets

• Proper Subset: Contains some but not all elements
• Improper Subset: Contains all elements (the set itself)

Example

For set A = {1, 2}, the subsets are:

Total subsets = 2² = 4
