Quantum Numbers Lithium (Li)
Orbital Notation
Detailed Calculation
Step 1: Determine principal quantum number (n) from electron shell.
Step 2: Determine azimuthal quantum number (l) from subshell type.
Step 3: Determine magnetic quantum number (ml) from orbital.
Step 4: Determine spin quantum number (ms) from electron spin.
For the 3rd electron in Lithium: n=2, l=0 (s orbital), ml=0, ms=+½

About Quantum Numbers
Principal (n)
Represents the energy level/shell of an electron. Values: 1, 2, 3, …
Azimuthal (l)
Defines the subshell shape. l=0(s), 1(p), 2(d), 3(f). Range: 0 to n-1.
Magnetic (ml)
Specifies orbital orientation. Range: -l to +l, including 0.
Spin (ms)
Describes electron spin direction. Values: +½ (spin up) or -½ (spin down).
